A Knoxville, Tennessee, faith-based charity is offering needy families a chance to wash and dry their clothes for free. Northside Church of Christ has established a nonprofit organization, Laundry Love: Knoxville, to provide low-income families a monthly opportunity to freshen their clothing at no cost to them.
Northside is part of the larger Laundry Loves network, originally established to combat homelessness in California. The network “seeks to bring economic relief by giving the individual or family the option to redirect funds toward food, medical, gas or transportation costs, as well as school supplies and other basic, everyday necessities.”
In Knoxville, residents are saving upwards of $40 per session. Though it might sound small, the money a struggling family saves from the laudromat is money for groceries an other expenses. With the help of more facilities and donations from supporters, Laundry Love: Knoxville aspires to set up additional pro-bono washes across the Volunteer State.
